What is TMJ/Buccal Massage?
An advanced intraoral treatment designed to release tension in the muscles of the jaw and face — including the masseter, buccinator, and temporalis. Using both external techniques and gentle gloved work inside the mouth, this therapy helps relieve chronic tension, ease TMJ/TMD-related discomfort, and reduce headaches while supporting optimal muscle function.

Beyond pain relief, clients often notice additional benefits such as improved circulation, lymphatic drainage, enhanced skin elasticity, and a natural lifting and toning of the facial contours. This technique can also be highly supportive in post-dental or orthodontic care.

What is TMJ/TMD?
The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is the hinge that connects the jawbone (mandible) to the skull (temporal bone). Unlike any other joint in the body, it supports both hinge and sliding movements, making it uniquely complex. When the TMJ isn’t functioning properly, it can lead to symptoms such as headaches, jaw pain, difficulty chewing, popping or clicking sounds, locking of the jaw, and even tinnitus.

The condition is commonly known as TMJD (temporomandibular joint disorder), though many dental and medical professionals now use the shorter term TMD (temporomandibular disorder).

While each person's path to chronic headaches or TMJ pain is unique, a common thread among most cases is the presence of chronic trigger points—tight, inflamed "knots" in the muscles of the head, neck, and shoulders. These points often refer pain into areas like the forehead, temples, jaw, and even behind the eyes, while also limiting movement and increasing overall tension.

Through targeted manual therapy, I work to release these knots, restore healthy blood flow, and ease muscular tension. This not only helps reduce spasms and pain, but also encourages a greater sense of relaxation and improved mobility. Many clients feel relief even in their first session, often saying it feels like we’re getting to “the spot” that’s been causing their pain all along.
Over time, this work empowers clients with greater body awareness and introduces self-care techniques they can use to support long-term relief.
